Who We Are |
to Harry Sanders THANK YOU! to our sponsors and guests for supporting Purple Line NOW! at our March 22, 2010 special event to raise funds and to honor the memory of Harry Sanders. The strong response we received at this event shows the widespread and deep support that exists for the Purple Line. Our Event Sponsors represented very diverse groups and individuals throughout Montgomery and Prince George's County. Many key elected officials and business, labor and civic leaders were at the event. The state assembly was in season at Annapolis and many senators and delegates were unable to attend, so they sent messages of support via. the following video prepared by Dan Reed, of Councilmember Leventhal's staff. Congresswoman Donna Edwards was scheduled to speak but was delayed until after 8 p.m. by pressing business on Capitol Hill. Nonetheless she made the effort to come to show her support and tell those of us still present about recent progress for the Purple Line at the federal level. Dan Reed gives his perspective on Congresswoman Edward's presence at the event and the making of the event videos on his blog, Just Up the Pike. Photos of the event are on Nancy Soreng's facebook page. The March 22 Purple Line NOW! event was a special tribute to our co-founder, President and dear friend Harry Sanders. The tribute featured the following video prepared by Dan Reed. The video includes a message from Harry Sanders that was recorded when we knew Harry would miss the event but still hoped he might be able to recover. Sadly Harry died only a few days later. Councilmembers Leventhal, Berliner, and Trachtenberg of Montgomery County and Councilmember Olson of Prince George's County read a resolution of tribute to Harry Sanders that was passed by unanamous vote of the full Montgomery County County Council on March 22. A ceremonial copy of the resolution was given to Harry's wife, Barbara, and their son, Gregg. |
