  1. Edward Hall Asher (2003), President of the The Chevy Chase Land Company has also served as President of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, as Chairman of the Village of North Chevy Chase, and in a leadership capacity in a variety of other community and business groups (shared seat with Michele Horowitz Cornwell).

  2. Vance Ayres (2008) is the Executive-Secretary Treasurer of the Washington, D.C. Building and Construction Trades Council

  3. Jim Clarke (2003), is a long time environmental activist and transportation consultant who resides in Rockville, Maryland.

  4. Michele Horowitz Cornwell (2003), The Chevy Chase Land Companyhas served on the Executive Committee since 2006 as Coalition Secretary and shares a board seat with Edward Hall Asher.

  5. Lisa Fadden (2007) is Vice President for Public Affairs of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. In that capacity, she is the Chamber’s liaison with the Montgomery County Delegation and Montgomery County Council. She is responsible for formulating and executing the Chamber’s legislative priorities and serve as the staff point person on each of the Chamber’s four policy committees, including the Transportation and Land Use Committee. She coordinates all of the Chamber's grassroots issues campaigns and member communications with elected officials. She also develops all of the Chamber’s internal and external communications including member newsletters, press releases, and issues editorials. The Purple Line has been and will continue to be a top priority of the Montgomery County Chamber because of its economic development implications as well as its importance in more efficiently connecting Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

  6. Andy Fellows (2003) is an environmental professional with Clean Water Action and a member of the City Council of the City of College Park. He is current Vice Chair of the Transportation Planning Board of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

  7. Andy Fraser (2006) is a principal at Sandglass Systems, Inc, a Kensington-based web design firm. He is a past-President of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce and sits on the board of the Montgomery College Board of Governors and Passion for Learning, Inc. He is bilingual, having studied Spanish at the University of Malaga in Spain. He holds a B.A. from St. Mary's College and an M.B.A. from the University of Baltimore.

  8. William Goddard, III (2007) is Vice President for Development of the Michael Co., which is based in Lanham, Maryland. He previously served as Maryland's Deputy Secretary of State and Chief of Staff to the Secretary for the Maryland Department of Transportation during the Glendening Administration. He is a retired Chief Deputy from the Prince George's County Maryland Fire Department.

  9. Erwin Mack (2003), is a retired businessman and Director of the Takoma-Langley Crossroads Community Development Authority. He has been active in promoting the revitalization of the Crossroads area for more than a decade.

  10. Colleen Mitchell (2006), is a Transportation Planner who lives in Silver Spring and works in a firm in Hyattsville that specializes in bicycle and pedestrian planning. She is the Newsletter Editor of the CBIPL monthly e-newsletter. She obtained an M.S. in Urban Planning from the University of Maryland, College Park.

  11. Geoffrey Morgan (2008), is a Vice President at Washington Adventist Hospital. He has worked in the health care system for more than 25 years and is currently focussed on the many issues related to the Hospital's relocation and reconfiguration of space at its Takoma Park campus.

  12. Thomas D. Murphy (2006), is Executive Vice President and COO of EagleBank which he founded 9 years ago. EagleBank is a Bethesda-based community bank that primarily serves small-middle sized businesses. He resides in North Bethesda and is past president of the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce.

  13. Wayne Phyillaier(2006) is a retired engineer and resident of the Woodside area of Silver Spring. He is the past Chair and current Treasurer of the Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail and also maintains an active and independent trail website Silver Spring Trails, which strongly endorses the joint-use trail/transit project as the only credible way of completing the Capital Crescent Trail into Silver Spring on the direct Master Plan alignment.

  14. Harry Sanders (2003; President, 2007) is a transit activist and resident of Silver Spring who was cofounder of the Action Committee for Transit.

  15. Craig Simpson (2003), is a native of Montgomery County, having attended Springbrook High School. He was Secretary/Treasurer of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 from 1993 to 2000, consulted with the Transit Employees Health and ?Welfare Plan in 2001 and with the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL/CIOfrom 2002-03. He received a BA in Labor Studies from the National Labor College in 2004 and has been a consultant with Progressive Maryland and the AFL/CIO since then. He currently resides in the District of Columbia.

  16. Webb L. Smedley (2003) is a professional planner and long-time civic activist in Silver Spring. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Science and an M.S. in Community and Regional Planning with an emphasis in Environmental Planning. He was Vice President of the Friends of the Silver Theater which helped save the historic theater, as a member of the Board of the Gateway-Georgia Avenue CDC and is President of the Woodside Civic Association.

  17. Nancy Soreng (2007) has been President of the Montgomery County League of Women Voters for the past 4 years. She Directed a Crisis Intervention Center and was a member of the school board in Ithica, NY before moving to Montgomery County in 1996. She is an avid bicyclist who also loves tennis and travel and lives in Bethesda, Maryland with her husband, a Botanist at NIH.

  18. Reuben Snipper (2007) is a member of the City Council of the City of Takoma Park where he has lived for more than two decades.


Ex-officio Board Members

Note: The Coalition has a policy that elected officials above the Municipal level can not serve on the Board of Directors. However, we want to work closely with our elected governments at both the County and State levels and created the ex-officio category to improve communication with these officials.

  1. George Leventhal (2007) is an at large member of the Montgomery County Council who was reelected to his 2nd term in 2006. He was instrumental in the formation of the Coalition to Build the Inner Purple Line in the Fall of 2002.

  2. Eric Olson (2003-2006); (ex officio, 2007), was the Director of the national Campaign Against Sprawl of the Sierra Club and a member of the City Council, City of College Park when he joined the board in 2003. He became a non voting ex officio member of the board as a result of his election to the Prince George's County Council in November, 2006.

  3. Tom Hucker (2007) has fought for the rights of working families in Maryland for years as Director of Progressive Maryland He was elected to the Legislature as a Delegate to the Maryland Assembly from District 20 in 2006.
