"Our over-reliance on cars and $4-per-gallon gasoline has led us to dig a really deep hole for ourselves. The Purple Line is the ladder that helps us climb up out of this hole toward the light of rational land use, friendly commutes and a stable climate." Mike Tidwell, director of CCAN

It's good for pedestrians!

The Inner Purple Line will create a friendlier pedestrian environment extending far beyond the trail.

Here are a few of the reasons why:

  • Safe and easy pedestrian and bicycle access to light-rail stations will be provided via new and improved sidewalks and access trails in neighborhoods all along the Purple Line. This is important in communities that aren't adjacent to the CCT like Langley Park and College Park.

  • Thousands of Maryland citizens will gain safer pedestrian and cycling options because the major changes to impacted streets must meet today's more stringent standards for sidewalks, crosswalks, etc.

  • Cyclists can bring their bikes onto trolleys, as is true for our Metrorail trains and light-rail systems in Baltimore, San Diego and many other cities.
