August, 2006: CBIPL succeeded in obtaining support from 120 candidates for office in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties for the light rail transitway between Bethesda and New Carrollton. Also in August, the Administration of Governor Robert Ehrlich announced approval of Bi-County Transitway planning contracts totalling $20 million.
July 7, 2006:
June, 2006: The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) held public workshops to present Bi-County Transitway design options. Information of the outcome of these workshops can be obtained on the Bi-County Transitway website: MTA Purple Line website.
May, 2006: CBIPL successfully pursuaded the Montgomery County Council to commit funds to design the Red-Line/Purple Line connection at the Bethesda Metrorail station. On May 18 the Montgomery County Council approved $5 million for detailed design of a South entrance. This follows an unprecedented outpouring of 500 letters to the Council in support of the effort. A complete description of our proposal for fast tracking the design and construction of the South entrance to that station can be found at: . This new entrance will improve access to the Metrorail Station and also provide a future direct link between the Purple and Red Lines. We wish to extend a special appreciation for the supportive comments made by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA) for this campaign. Finish the trail/build light rail!
April-May, 2006: The CBIPL agreed to support the Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail and WABA in their efforts to obtain county funding to address serious degradation of the interim trail east of the trestle. $200,000 was allocated by the Montgomery County Council for this purpose.
