Purple Line Approved by Feds
for Preliminary Engineering

~ Biggest Day for the Purple Line since 2009 LPA Announcement ~

Purple Line NOW is jubilant at last Friday's announcement of preliminary engineering approval for development of detailed plans for the Purple Line.

This landmark is a palpable tribute to the legacy of Harry Sanders and all who have advocated for the line over the 25 years since the first ideas for this project emerged.

Much credit is also due to Mike Madden and the Maryland Transit Administration team who have brought the project to this point - their skills, experience and hard work have indeed paid off with a high score from FTA for the project.

We also wish to thank all those elected officials who have championed the Purple Line - they can take satisfaction from the fact that the project is valid, needed and has a sound conceptual base - as we all knew all along.

And we thank you, our many supporters who have contributed, testified and stood up for the project over the years.

Now, the hard work begins.

Local concerns must be addressed, as MTA will be doing over the next year and beyond.

Funding must be secured, both at the State and Federal levels. We will need you to work with us to make sure Maryland has the needed revenue to fund the Purple Line and to combat strong forces in Congress that would eliminate infrastructure projects like the Purple Line as excessive Federal spending. Please follow us on our website, www.purplelinenow.com, and join us on Facebook to keep informed.

We are grateful to all of our many supporters and look forward to the detailed planning the Federal funding will now permit. And we look forward to working with you on the challenges we face as we get closer to boarding a real train.

November Open Houses

To mark the significant milestone that Preliminary Engineering represents, the MTA has announced that they will be holding a series of four open houses in November to further educate the public on what preliminary engineering means and what the next steps are in getting the Purple Line built. Meetings will take place in College Park, Bethesda, Riverdale and Silver Spring from 5:30pm - 8:30pm on the dates listed below. Whether you're learning about the Purple Line for the first time or you're a seasoned veteran of Purple Line community meetings, there'll be something for you at these open houses. Topics will include the current project schedule, access and safety around local stations and anything else you would like to learn more about. The MTA wants to hear from you so they can design the best possible Purple Line and meet the needs of your community. So come on out, show your support for the Purple Line, and shape your transportation future. See you there!
